What happens to societal art when society falls apart?
Who has the knowledge or skill to continue?
Art that requires specialized materials and techniques will suffer, unless the artists improvise and adapt.
Post apocalyptic photography is my attempt to adapt and continue.
I am using materials I have found, scavenged, or if I'm really fortunate, I have traded or bartered for them.
Cameras, from: "vaulted building; arched roof or ceiling," from Latin camera "a vault, vaulted room" are just that, simple "rooms" or boxes. They are sans lenses, using the science of a pinhole for exposures.
Film, which we traditionally consider being used in the camera and being transparent is scavenged/found and sometimes years out of date. Working on making light sensitive emulsions to use on glass and plastic films.
Final prints are made with a variety of emulsions on papers I can find/scavenge.
Chemicals are so far the most difficult to obtain. Scrounging for chemistry books and elements I can break down to use has been fascinating.
